Museums in the Park, a website we developed in collaboration with our brilliant creative partners at the watsons, has been featured on the WordPress Showcase. Museums in the Park markets ten popular metropolitan museums in Chicago, and features a password protected member area where staff and board members access important documents and updates.
In addition to advising the watsons on a design feasible for a web canvas, we recommended using WordPress as the backend content management system (CMS). Given their basic CMS needs, the ease and usability of WordPress that clients rave about, the zero-cost open source software licensing, and the inexpensive hosting associated with LAMP platforms, it was an easy sell.
Every part of the site is powered by WordPress. All page content, including the home page, is managed from the page editor, with some help from the excellent pageMash plug-in. The “News / Media Relations” feed is powered by the posting / blogging features. The “staff area” login uses “subscriber” level WordPress user accounts, and a custom page template that determines whether a user logged in, their user account level, and redirects them accordingly without ever touching the admin console or login screen.
