Introducing the “Ning-tranet”

Over the last year we’ve helped several clients deploy social networks on the Ning platform. Our early Ning deployments were elegant, but traditional: we helped member organizations create rich, dynamic online member communities. Recently, we’ve been breaking out of that box.

Earlier this year, we customized an instance of Ning for FIRST Credit Union in British Columbia, creating a social network that enables their staff to meet up and share ideas online. The project included a custom design (implemented via CSS), custom home page components (via the Ning API), and some creative hiding and renaming of core features (using CSS and JavaScript).

Welcome New Clients

We’re very excited to start working with a few great new clients. A big welcome to the Ford Foundation (http://www.grantcraft.org), Fairfield Farm Kitchens (http://www.fairfieldfarmkitchens.com), the New England Law Library Consortium (http://www.nellco.org), and the Social Venture Network (http://www.svn.org).

Aloha, HISciTech!

Congratulations to the team at the Hawaii Science and Technology Council! We just wrapped up a full migration of their membership management system from ACT! to the Community Enterprise platform. At the same time they went through a re-branding initiative and will now be known as HISciTech.

They are creating a ton of value for their members through new features on their website such as member-only resources, job posting capabilities, a searchable resume database, a massive online directory of technology companies in Hawaii, and RSS feeds. Congratulations HISciTech Team, we hope to come visit soon!

Green Apple in the Big Apple

We just finished up a neat feature for our friends over at www.madeinnyc.org. Launched just after 9/11, their website encourages businesses to purchase products manufactured in New York City with an online database of NYC manufacturers. We just added a new dimension to their search capabilities allowing visitors to search for environmentally-friendly products manufactured in NYC! Give it a try.

The Peacebuilding Initiative

We are pleased to announce the launch of The Peacebuilding Initiative on the Community Enterprise platform. This is the first of a series of academic portals designed to serve the needs of the peacebuilding community by consolidating pertinent research and information from around the web. The initial portal is focused on Sierra Leone with more countries to follow.

This implementation includes a customized, searchable resource library that goes well beyond the basic document library and search functions included in the software, especially relating to the look-and-feel of the library.

In subsequent phases, the portal will leverage CE’s event calendar and various online community building functions.
